Ancient Vineyards in the Sky [surrounded by water]
SPAIN HAS BEEN MAKING WINE FOR MILLENNIA - Old Vines grow everywhere in the largely arid landscape of the Mesetas.
These elevated deserts that resemble Arizona more than Napa are dotted by old bush vines with thick trunks and deep roots, tough enough to withstand the bitter cold and intense heat of a high plains desert - wines produced here have a sense of place and purpose...
Look at this old map and you find a peninsula - well...almost an island, surrounded by water and criss-crossed by sharp mountain ranges that exceed 10,000 feet. The majority of Spain's peninsular landmass consists of the Meseta Central, a highland plateau rimmed and dissected by mountain ranges
I am fascinated with the wines of Spain and my quest is to find a path to promote the everyday and the obscure - to find greatness at all price points - to keep the honest journey alive for all that want to explore and enjoy the wines of this mountainous island in the sky.
