Vinos de Bierzo

The winery "Vinos del Bierzo" is located in Cacabelos, in the middle of Low Bierzo where the main wine exploitations of the region were established. It was founded in 1963 with about 600 co-op members. After a year, the co-op grew to 2,000 members, and the winery produced it's first vintage.
Although the actual winery is located at the entrance of the town, the members' vineyards extend to neighboring municipalities, exceeding 1,000 Hectares of land. The "Vinos del Bierzo" winery co-op is known as the "Wine Cathedral" and is the region's leader in technological and commercial renewal.

About the Bierzo Region

Situated at the Northeast province of Leon and adjoining Galicia and Asturias, "el Bierzo" known by many as "the door of Galicia," is a rich and fertile plain surrounded by mountains. The land is ideal for growing grapes. The valley where the vines are situation possesses a soft slope that is born at the pine forests of the surrounding mountains, and which protects them from the worst influences of the Atlantic. The prominent grapes in the region are Mencia and Godello.
